Globally, “alcohol-free” most commonly means any drink that is no more than 0.5% ABV (alcohol by volume) – that’s to say, no more than 0.5% of the total volume is alcohol.
All the drinks we sell meet that criteria. Some are 0.5% ABV, some are less, and some have no alcohol at all.
In the UK “alcohol-free” technically refers to drinks that have no more than 0.05% ABV. For drinks at or below 0.5%, the term most often used is “de-alcoholised”.
That term can be a bit confusing in cases where the drink itself was made without the removal of alcohol. (Have a read of our blog on the production of low- and no-alcohol drinks if interested!)
When thinking about an “alcohol-free” drinks it’s worth bearing in mind that lots of everyday products contain alcohol that you don’t even notice. Orange juice, for example, is typically found to contain between 0.15% and 0.75% alcohol.
Yes! The processes for making the drinks we sell vary and some do contain up to 0.5% alcohol – still considered “alcohol-free” in most parts of the world – but we sell a wide range that don’t have any alcohol at all. Just scroll to the product info for each drink and we give clear details on the alcohol
That’s a tough one! Some of the low- and no- products we sell taste just like their alcoholic ‘cousins’. They’ve been carefully crafted to match the hoppy, fruity, botanic notes and mouthfeels you might have been used to.
Others aren’t so focused on creating a like-for-like taste experience and offer something a bit different.
Our drinks categories sort products according to the alcoholic drink type they most closely reflect.
Just because these drinks are low-alcohol or even alcohol-free we wouldn’t recommend a mighty binge. But how you enjoy them is, of course, up to you!
Some of the spirits go beautifully with the mixers we offer.
We’ve tried to give some inspiration for each in the product descriptions. If you come across a great pairing and would like to share, please let us know!
If you have any concerns about the effects of low-alcohol drinks, we recommend you speak with a medical professional.
As mentioned above, even if the products you choose are not 100% alcohol free, it’s very possible they’ll have a lower ABV than the orange juice you happily drink at breakfast.
